Who enjoys 4D cinema? Well, we have something even better (even if we say so ourselves) – our totally immersive, multi-dimensional new family show, Neverland, for our client Marella Cruises ships Discovery and Discovery 2.
When Marella Cruises asked us to come up with something interactive that would keep the whole family entertained throughout the show, there was only one Peel team we could think of for such a task – yes, our sister company, Peel Interactive.
With expertise in all digital entertainment solutions, they got to work using products such as Virtual Reality (VR), stunning animations and 3D modelling. The team constructed a 3D model of Neverland’s Scull Island from scratch, which really does create the effect of ‘coming alive’.
Interactive worked their magic again with the content for our VR headsets to be used by our little guests as part of the pre-show experience. Our professional actors lead the children on a magical journey to ‘Skull Island’. Here they are able to ‘virtually’ meet some of the characters by wearing the VR headset, and they are introduced to the world of the story by one of the ‘Lost Boys’. The characters then ‘transform’ into real life, appearing on stage for a theatre show.
The on board show was inspired by J.M Barrie‘s immortal stage play, ‘Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up‘ which debuted in 1904 and tells the story of a mischievous little boy who embarks on magical adventures around his island home, meeting mermaids, fairies and pirates along the way.
The audience gets to explore 360 degrees of colourful backdrops whilst meeting some of the story’s most iconic characters, finally landing on the Jolly Roger and coming face to face with the infamous tyrant, Captain Hook. It certainly had us, and the audience hooked, if you’ll pardon the pun.
We’re looking forward to seeing what else our creative teams can come up with. If you want to find out more about what our Peel Interactive gets up to, take a look here.
