FIVE New Shows for a Jam Packed Summer Season at sea…

Our Creative HQ team have been exceptionally busy crafting and curating brand new shows for audiences onboard Marella Spirit, Dream and Discovery.

The first of our five, (yes five!) brand new shows, 'Private Eye' previewed live onboard Marella Spirit on Tuesday 27th March. Private Eye is a multi-generational show structured around postmodern jukebox with infusions of 80's classics and the Swing era. The show is inspired by the fictional story ‘Who Killed Leroy Brown’ (the 'baddest' boy in town). Set in 1930's Hollywood, the show was created with a unique art concept that sees the use of only Primary colours throughout, and when paired with our tailor-made costumes we’re confident that Private Eye will become a must-see!

Live onboard Marella Dream we've got 'Burlesque' and 'New York New York’!

'It's Burlesque' takes us on the journey of an ordinary girl who wants to work in a Burlesque club. The show boasts two sets featuring an active door, specially commissioned life size martini glass and vertical pole for dancing. Combine the set and story line with carefully selected costumes and colour scheming, not to mention remastered classics and you've got the audience immersed in a fabulously themed and visual feast of a show.

'New York New York' is a firm favourite at HQ, perhaps because it has a little bit of everything! Set in a coffee shop in New York, a carefully curated and diverse song list takes us through the whirl-wind that is the average day in the life of a cafe worker in The Big Apple.  'Nine to Five' commuters pop by whilst the girl behind the counter finds herself caught up in a 'Vogue' fashion shoot, all whilst she's trying to meet a 'Boy from New York City'!

Previewing shortly after Dream, our new shows for Marella Discovery could be our best yet...

'Radio Gaga', a 1980's retro show featuring live sax and dancers on roller boots! This show takes us back to the birth of MTV. We've paired up with 80's icon and ex Radio 1 and Live Aid presenter Andy Kershaw as our very own Max Headroom, (the very first animated presenter to feature on TV!). Working very closely with the Peel Interactive team to post-process Andy, we've turned him into a human CGI, so he really will appear animated live on stage! The staging takes its inspiration from a Rubix Cube and costumes are designed to mirror these colours throughout the show. As the musical journey begins the show opens with 'Video Killed the Radio Star', the first ever song aired on MTV and as the show progresses we'll see a real range of chart hits including an insight into the most expensive music video ever aired on television... our creative team have really pulled this one out the bag!

'Hello Mr Wonderful'  is the second show to go live onboard Marella Discovery and although still in its development phase, we can tell you that there'll be a pool party and some classics from Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie - what more could you ask for?

The hard works not over though and we’ve got lots more fantastic productions in the pipeline so keep your eyes ‘Peeled’!
